Boot camp
The fundamentals, before the front. Five short lessons that turn a first-timer into a squadmate worth having — how the game thinks, how to move, how to shoot, and how to win the objective.
Grunts rewards the patient. Position, information, and survival win more rounds than raw reflex.
This is a game of space and timing before it's a game of aim. The players who climb control ground, feed their squad information, and stay alive to keep contributing. Learn to value being useful over being brave and the rest of the guide clicks into place.
“Control space, not scoreboards. You win by being useful, not by being brave.”
- Positioning over reflex
- Information over kills
- Survival over ego
- Team outcomes over personal stats
- Chasing kills instead of the objective
- Ignoring spacing and angles
- Treating every mode like Team Deathmatch
- Playing loud when silence wins
Angles beat aim. Cover beats courage. Elevation beats speed.
Most deaths are movement mistakes, not aim losses. Cross open ground only with a reason, move in short bursts between cover, and pre-aim the corners where contact actually happens. The map gives you the advantage for free — take the high line, limit the enemy's options, and make them fight on your terms.
“If you're sprinting, you're late. Cover first, courage second.”
- Short bursts between cover
- Pausing to listen before you push
- Pre-aiming likely contact points
- Using terrain to limit enemy options
- Sprinting everywhere
- Jump-peeking the same angle
- Standing in doorways
- Re-peeking a lane right after contact
Controlled fire beats spray. First-shot advantage and recoil control win the duel.
The trigger discipline is the skill. Burst at range so the recoil never runs away from you, reload behind cover before you push rather than mid-fight, and spend grenades with a plan instead of panic. Noise is information — yours and theirs — so use your fire to force movement, not just to chase a silhouette.
“Accuracy is cheaper than ammo. Noise is information — use it carefully.”
- Burst-fire at mid-range
- Suppress to force movement
- Reload before you push, not during
- Use grenades with intent and a follow-up
- Mag-dumping at silhouettes
- Reloading in the middle of a fight
- Throwing grenades with no follow-up
- Shooting before you've confirmed the angle
Objectives are pressure tools, not decorations. Control the routes, not the point.
Sitting on a flag makes you a target; controlling the routes into it makes you a wall. Winning players deny rotations, force the enemy into bad choices, and leave a point early to set the defense on the next one. Chasing kills off-objective is how you lose a round you were winning.
“Flags don't shoot back. People do.”
- Control the routes into objectives
- Deny enemy rotations
- Force bad enemy choices
- Leave early to set the next defense
- Sit directly on the point
- Overstack a single objective
- Ignore the flanks
- Chase kills off-point
Coverage beats heroes. Space out, cover the roles, and the squad does the work.
A stacked squad dies to one grenade; a spread one trades up every fight. Keep five to ten metres in the open and two to five indoors, and never line up directly behind a teammate. Cover the roles — someone opens space, someone enables movement, someone denies, someone sustains — and you'll hold ground four solo heroes never could.
“We don't need four leaders. We need coverage.”
- 5–10 metres apart in the open
- 2–5 metres indoors
- Never stack directly behind a teammate
- Build crossfires, not conga lines
- Assault opens space
- Engineer enables movement
- Recon provides intel and reach
- Support denies and sustains the pressure
Not where to stand — how to think. The mental model for the modes you’ll meet first. The deep, map-by-map strategy lives on each mode page.
- Win by rotation timing
- Hold intersections, not flags
- Bleed enemy momentum
- Don't over-defend a losing point
“Rotate early or die tired. Boring positions win wars.”
- Control spawns through positioning
- Avoid solo hero pushes
- Build crossfires
- Flip spawns on purpose
“Control the spawn and the kills come to you.”
- Sound discipline over aim
- Hold territory over pride
- Never chase revenge
“Everyone lies to themselves here. Keep your head clear.”
- Greed kills squads
- Exfil is the real objective
- Leave early, alive, and paid
“If you're excited, you're about to make a mistake.”
- Funnel the enemies
- Control the pacing
- Always keep an exit plan
“Treat it as training. Keep a way out.”
Play to earn the round, not the killcam
Grunts pays out for the things that win matches — staying alive, contributing to the objective, backing your squad, and knowing when to disengage. Chasing kills for their own sake earns nothing.
“Dead heroes earn nothing.”
- Survival
- Objective contribution
- Squad play
- Smart disengagement
- Empty kill-chasing
- Stat padding
- AFK farming
